It’s time for the holidays, which means a chance to eat, drink, and be merry. But for those struggling with an alcohol addiction, it can be tough to navigate and can lead to heightened anxiety. The holiday pressures of money, family, and general stress can be difficult for everyone, but for someone with an alcohol addiction, they can be amplified as they are often the triggers that began the abuse in the first place. The holidays can be an invitation for a destructive relapse, but education and awareness are the most potent lines of defense in attempting to combat a significant problem. (more…)

Many Addiction Treatment Centers still Hope for Patient Recovery, not Relapse

A recent article stated that to receive more insurance dollars, some South Florida treatment centers are focusing on relapse instead of patient recovery. Over the years there has been a rapid explosion in Florida of troubled treatment centers, group homes and sober homes where many addicts fall deeper into addiction. Florida has more sober homes per capita of any state and treatment centers are a $1 billion business in Palm Beach County alone, according to federal officials. (more…)

What is the Pink Cloud Syndrome in Addiction Recovery?

An individual that struggles with drug and alcohol abuse will go through drastic changes between the time they enter an addiction treatment center and the time they discharge. These changes will be a combination of physical, emotional and spiritual changes as the treatment center strives to help their clients reclaim their mind, body and spirit. A person that may have been resistant to treatment in the beginning can become passionate about their recovery 45 to 90 days later. Getting help is the first hurdle. Engaging in treatment is the battle.
