Lifeskills Alumni Program:
Connect. Commit. Cultivate

Our Guiding Principles: The Three Cs

The Three Cs provide the foundation for the Lifeskills Alum Program.

1.

CONNECT

Our communities to our alums and their families in a meaningful way.

2.

COMMIT

To serving and guiding our alums and their families.

3.

CULTIVATE

Strong communities that will continue their recovery journeys together.

Alum Program Components

Support Groups

Our alum relations team facilitates discharge interviews for Lifeskills’ clients as well as various support groups for clients, alums, and their families to help them connect with and commit to the program.

Discharge Interviews

During each discharge interview, the alum relations coordinator introduces the program, answers any questions, and collects membership information.

Discharge Group

Beginning three weeks before discharge, the discharge group allows clients to check in, share their experiences, find support, and get educated on the program.

Alum Support Group

Within this weekly group, alums can check in, share their experiences, and find support.

Family Support Group

Within this weekly group, families can check in, share their experiences, and find support.

Hear From Our Alums

Post-discharge Outreach

We know that consistent contact cultivates relationships. After leaving Lifeskills, each alum receives an initial check-in, as well as ongoing scheduled check-ins. During these check-ins, recovery challenges and the needed resources are identified and addressed so our alums and their families feel supported.

The Group Me App & Private Facebook Page

The app and private page allow alums and their families to instantly connect with other program members. Members can post, build friendships, access support groups, track events and milestones, and more. The alum relations coordinator administers groups and provides support as well as holds all members accountable to each group’s rules.

Volunteer Committee

Our alum community is run, governed, and supported by our volunteer committee, which works in conjunction with our alum relations coordinator. The only requirements for committee membership include attending the once-a-month meetings and participating in most alum community events.

Events

We believe in connection through group activities! Recovery is about being a part of life and experiencing new events. The volunteer committee votes on various quarterly events, including reunions, beach trips, bowling, and more.

“Lifeskills wasn't an easy program. There were a lot of hardships in the program. I had to look at myself honestly. I couldn't hide my shortcomings anymore. I had to face what my life had become, but I did get better. I'm stable now, and it's something I haven't had my entire life. Now I have peace of mind and a future ahead of me. Addiction doesn't have to be a death sentence. DID doesn't have to be a death sentence. You can get better. It's work, but you can definitely grow and change. It's never too late, and if you've never had stability or true happiness you can always work so you can have it in the future. Life can be good, you can change.”

“I arrived after four suicide attempts, three of which took place within a single day. The last of which got me sent to the VA hospital in West Palm Beach who took the initiative to have me placed at Lifeskills. This place is a miracle worker. It took a fully broken man who couldn't see life ahead of him and gave him hope for the future. Everything here has a purpose, even if you cannot see it at the time. The staff is honestly amazing, full of highly qualified therapists, great techs, and community building that is truly next level. They saved my life. I strongly suggest Lifeskills to anyone who is struggling with their mental health. They CAN change you too if you allow the program to work.”

“Before coming to Lifeskills, I was really struggling with my mental health and with substance abuse. The community here is so incredibly supportive, the staff is amazing, and the program was truly so helpful in assisting me with creating a much more stable and helpful life. I would like to thank the clinical team, especially Celin, Ian, Amy, and Sheryl, who helped me learn so many valuable skills that have really changed my life for the better. My life was so unmanageable, and I was manic and unstable, but with the help of Lifeskills I have grown so much as a person. I would highly recommend this treatment center to anyone looking for the best possible help!!”

“We were desperate to get help for a family friend, so we reached out to Lifeskills. With the help of the staff and Dr. David, the clinical director, he was inresidential treatment for two months, and then he transferred to outpatient care. During his stay, we visited with him, met the staff membersand toured the beautiful facility. I’m so thankful that we found this amazing center to help our dear friend get the help he needed. He’s been mentally healthy, clean, and sober for 16 months. Thank you Lifeskills!”
