To All Lifeskills Alumni, I hope everyone is doing well and gearing up for summer. I am pleased to announce our “4th Annual Alumni Bowling Get-Together” at Strikes @ Boca (near the mall) on Sunday May 31 from 2 – 4pm. We will provide lanes, shoes, pizza and soda…..you get to provide yourself and some fun!
Let’s get the word out, folks! We have included links to two advertisements for the REEL Recovery Film Festival for posting in twelve step meeting halls, church & coffee shop community bulletin boards and “under a magnet” on the refrigerators of every recovery residence from Port St. Lucie south to Miami.
We have begun construction on a new residential living space that will accommodate an additional 10 clients.
The American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP) held its annual meeting and symposium December 8-11, 2011 in Scottsdale, AZ. AAAP is an international professional membership organization founded in 1985 with approximately 1,000 members.
The South Florida Chapter of The International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP) held a fundraising luncheon at Maggiano’s Restaurant on December 3, 2011 in Boca Raton,FL. Proceeds of the event go to providing education, certification and the promotion of effective treatment for eating disorders.
In 2008, Psychiatric News published an article using Mentalization-Based Therapy, MBT, with Borderline Personality Disorder. A working definition of MBT is the use of imaginative mental activity or perceiving and interpreting human behavior in terms of intentional mental states (needs, feelings, goals, purpose) based on research by Anthony Bateman and Peter Fonagy)
Many who suffer from Bipolar Disorder may wait years from the first onset of the problem to first diagnosis. Generally, symptoms do not begin until adolescence but symptoms can be misdiagnosed.
A new report released mid-November examining teenagers and self-harm found troubling results. One in 12 teenagers will engage in self-harming activities such as cutting, burning or other life threatening risks. The study was conducted by the Center for Adolescent Health, Melborne, Australia.
