Lifeskills South Florida Staff Overview
Chief Executive Officer
Klay Weaver, LCSW
Bringing over 25 years of behavioral healthcare management experience, including 20+ years in executive leadership, Klay joined Lifeskills South Florida in 2015 as our Chief Executive Officer. Prior to joining Lifeskills, he served as COO of Skyland Trail in Atlanta, GA, where he oversaw the organization’s strategic growth, financial operations, clinical operations, and marketing. With roots in community mental health, Klay led two of the largest community mental health centers in the state of Georgia, providing services to over 17,000 individuals annually in 11 counties.
Klay received a Bachelor of Arts in Education and an M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary, as well as a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Kentucky. As a licensed social worker for over two decades, he has enjoyed being active in the community serving on multiple non-profit boards including the Red Cross, Georgia Community Service Board Association, and most recently on the Delray Beach Drug Task Force. Since leading the team at Lifeskills South Florida, he has been instrumental in the clinical growth and programmatic expansion to provide additional services.
Medical Director
Daniel Bober, DO
Dr. Bober attended medical school at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his adult/child/adolescent psychiatry training at the Yale University School of Medicine and a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine. While serving as a mental health policy fellow in the U.S. Senate through the American Psychiatric Association and the Yale University School of Medicine, he championed the cause of veterans and active duty service members with mental illness.
Dr. Bober currently holds a faculty appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Yale Child Study Center. In treating adults, his clinical interest and expertise lay in working with individuals who have addiction, trauma, and personality disorders. His career has afforded him the opportunity to treat co-occurring disorders in inpatient, outpatient, and research settings. He is board-certified in General Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Forensic Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is also certified in Obesity Medicine through the American Board of Obesity Medicine. Additionally, as a Diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine, Dr. Bober is a Certified Addiction Medicine physician.
Psychiatrist
Andrew Spaedy, MD
Dr Spaedy is a psychiatric subspecialty trained physician. He attended medical school at the University of Missouri Kansas City School of medicine’s BA/MD program. He went on to complete a residency in General Psychiatry as well as a multi-year fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Hackensack Meridian Health’s Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Separate from his training experience, Dr Spaedy has worked as an outpatient physician at a community mental health clinic where he cared for patients with more severe mental health conditions. Additionally, he previously provided regular coverage to a local hospital’s 30 bed inpatient psychiatric unit, evaluated psychiatric emergency cases in the hospital’s ER, and performed psychiatric consultations requested by the internal medicine services.
Dr Spaedy has authored multiple psychiatric research papers that have been published in major psychiatric journals. Some of his published work includes an analysis of a broad range of substance use disorders in pediatric psychiatric patient populations as well as genetic research on the dopamine transporter and its relation to smoking in patients with schizophrenia. He has had his work presented at multiple national psychiatric meetings on topics such as neuroimaging findings in various mental health conditions as well as ways to improve efficiency with psychiatric liaison services on inpatient medical units.

Chief Operating Officer
Catherine Manley, LMHC
Catherine Manley, LMHC serves as the Chief Operating Officer at Lifeskills South Florida. With over 15+ years in the behavioral healthcare sector, Catherine delivers a strong operational and business-oriented approach through her expertise in mentoring and developing leadership teams in growing companies. Catherine values maintaining clinical excellence for the benefit of all stakeholders. She has experience with the full continuum of care and offers profound insight into substance use disorders, mental health disorders, as well as eating disorders.
Catherine Manley, a Miami native, entered the behavioral healthcare industry as a call to action to provide compassionate and innovative treatment to her community. Catherine received her Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Florida International University and pursued her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Nova Southeastern University. She has served as a spokesperson to The Joint Commission on the impact of measurement-based care in the behavioral healthcare industry. Catherine is dedicated and committed to making a difference and champions the organizational culture by providing hands-on structure, supportive leadership, and a clear vision. When Catherine is not working, she enjoys traveling abroad with her family and two young sons, Chase and Connor.
Executive Director of Clinical Services
David Ockman, PsyD, CAP
Dr. Ockman serves as Executive Director of Clinical Services at Lifeskills South Florida and is a licensed Psychologist and Certified Addictions Professional. He has worked in the field of mental health and addiction for more than 30 years. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Florida International University, Masters and Doctoral degrees from The Miami Institute of Psychology, and has been licensed as a Psychologist since 2002. Dr. Ockman has been with Lifeskills for just under a decade focusing on clinical programming, leading the esteemed team via his supervision, integrity, and development.
His longevity in the behavioral health field includes a broad range of expertise to his crucial role such as administrative leadership in therapeutic out-patient and residential communities, hospital settings, and state regulatory positions. During his career, he has been an integral team member in securing and maintaining Joint Commission and CARF Accreditations, the gold standard in behavioral health. He has spent most of his career utilizing evidence-based modalities and finding ways to provide the most effective interventions for patients and their families.
Dr. Ockman spent seven years as one of the supervising Psychologists of interns and residents for an APPIC-approved program training psychologists in best practices. He was born and raised in South Florida and enjoys finding great places in Florida to take his family who is his everything!
Director of Quality Improvement & Utilization Review
David Duquette, PsyD
Dr. Duquette, Director of Quality Improvement and Utilization Review at Lifeskills South Florida, earned his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Carlos Albizu University and completed his pre-doctoral internship at South Florida State Hospital. Before joining Lifeskills, he was the Utilization Review Manager at the largest community mental health center in Colorado, where he authorized all levels of mental health services for Medicaid consumers. He also brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in obtaining authorizations from private insurance companies.
Associate Clinical Director
Tara Alhadeff, LMHC, CAI, DBT-Intensively Trained, ExRP
Tara Alhadeff has almost 20 years of clinical experience in both residential and outpatient settings. Tara is known as a skillful motivator, leading clients to examine their current patterns and supporting them as they re-calibrate to cope with daily challenges. She has an extensive interest in working with those experiencing co-occurring disorders and their families. She utilizes evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy, and Motivational Enhancement Therapy. Her extensive experience in Recovery Coaching supports clients as they move out of the pre-contemplation stage of change.
Tara brings expertise in Intervention as she has completed intensive training and is certified as an ARISE (A Relational Intervention Sequence for Engagement) Interventionist. This has supported her treatment of clients requiring behavioral interventions and those suffering from addictions in the most effective manner. Ms Alhadeff is also a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). She received her bachelor’s degree from Boston University and her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. Tara is artistic and creative and enjoys spending time with her family.
Director of Family Services / Residential & PHP Programming
Mirella Ezeta, PsyD, DBT-Intensively Trained
Dr. Mirella Ezeta is the Director of Family Services at Lifeskills South Florida. She earned her Master of Science in Mental Health and Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University. She also was trained in Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) at the Albert Ellis Institute in New York. She has been providing individual, family, and group therapy for almost 20 years for individuals with severe emotional problems, trauma experiences, and addiction diagnoses. In her work as a clinician, she considers this crucial for the client’s recovery. Working with the family system allows her to teach strategies for effective communication and the development of healthy relationships.
Her passion for attachment issues is reflected in her ability to develop and retrain healthy attachment within family members. Dr. Mirella is bilingual and has expansive experience working with diverse and multicultural families.

Ilissa Whitehead, MS, LMHC, DBT-Intensively Trained
Ilissa Whitehead, MS, LMHC, Associate Director of Family Services at Lifeskills South Florida, earned her Bachelor of Science degree at Florida International University and holds a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Barry University. Ilissa has experience working in both residential and outpatient settings with adolescents, adults, groups, couples, and families. Passionate about repairing and rebuilding the family system, Ilissa strives to help families develop & maintain healthy lines of communication with appropriate boundaries through the lens of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and other evidence-based interventions. Ilissa is highly skilled in delivering Exposure Response Therapy (ERP), the Gold Standard treatment modality for OCD and anxiety disorders. Ilissa, a Miami Beach native, has two grown sons and a daughter in high school.
Clinical Outcomes and Neuropsychological Testing
David Forstadt, PsyD, LMHC, LPC
Dr. Forstadt is the Clinical Outcomes and Neuropsychological Testing Pathway Consultant at Lifeskills South Florida. As a psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience in the field of behavioral health, Dr. Forstadt specializes in addiction, dual diagnosis populations, and clinical testing protocols. He earned his Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology from Daemen College and Masters of Science degree in Community Mental Health from Canisius College. He also earned his Masters of Science in Psychology and Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from Medaille College in upstate New York. During his clinical practicum and residency, Dr. Forstadt completed training in psychological testing and clinical outcome measurement protocols in both forensic and residential treatment settings.
As an expert on clinical program development, integrative care, and research-based approaches, Dr. Forstadt has helped provide services to varying populations. He has created and consulted with treatment programs to elevate the quality and inclusiveness of clinical services provided. He currently serves on the Clinical Council Committee Board for Odyssey Behavioral Health. He is a Nationally Board-Certified therapist and is a licensed clinician across numerous states. He has authored multiple publications in international journal focused on substance use and mental health issues. Dr Forstadt enjoys spending time with his partner and daughters.

James Tartal
A visionary leader, James brings invaluable insight to this role through years of experience professionally and personally driven by his own journey of long-term recovery. His dedication to the mental health and addiction field is evidenced via his around-the-clock commitment to excellence combined with a relentless pursuit of innovative solutions to client care. James began his career as a Behavioral Health Technician. His work ethic enabled him to flourish into leadership while truly understanding the nuances of direct client care from a key perspective. His own treatment instilled a profound client-centered approach while recognizing the need for strong boundaries. James proudly leads the invaluable team of Behavioral Health Technicians. Passionate about enhancing the overall client stay while at Lifeskills, James is committed to improving outcomes through comprehensive strategies. Trained in crisis de-escalation, he ensures that individuals receive the support they need during challenging times. His expertise extends to managing contracts across various facilities and levels of care, ensuring seamless operations, and optimal service delivery. James is well-versed in regulatory compliance, including standards set by FARR, AHCA, and DCF. His meticulous attention to detail ensures that our programming under his purview adhere to all necessary regulations, fostering an environment of safety and accountability, and ethical treatment.

Jamel Lewis, RN, BSN
Jamel Lewis is the Director of Nursing for Lifeskills South Florida in Deerfield. Jamel earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Chamberlain University. He has dedicated his 22 years as a nurse to delivering exemplary patient care. He started his career in New York as a wound care nurse for military veterans. He then transitioned to nursing elderly patients in long-term care facilities. Ten years ago, his family moved to South Florida, and his career path led him to work with mental health and addiction patients. Jamel has held numerous supervisory and directorial positions over the past eight years. His job satisfaction comes from knowing that he is helping to improve his patients’ lives. In his personal life, Jamel can be found at the gym doing CrossFit or the theatre, watching Marvel movies with his three children.

With a professional background in both luxury hospitality and residential treatment admissions, Jorge is distinguished by his passion for excellence in customer service and constant striving to exceed client, family, and trusted professional expectations. In addition, he has extensive experience working with complicated clinical cases and is accustomed to working with those from diverse cultural backgrounds. Jorge is currently enrolled in Palm Beach Atlantic University, pursuing a Master’s of Science in Mental Health. He is bilingual which lends to family systems communication needs.

Kaleigh Dietz, MEd, CRC
Kaleigh Dietz is an Admissions Counselor at Lifeskills South Florida. Kaleigh originally joined the Lifeskills team as an Intake Coordinator, where she welcomed clients to Lifeskills and helped guide them through the intake process. Kaleigh brings experience in concierge patient care and hopes to bring a concierge experience to clients here at Lifeskills, while also creating a warm and welcoming environment for them to begin their healing process. Kaleigh graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Master’s in Counselor Education and is also a Master’s level Certified Rehabilitation Counselor in the state of Florida. Kaleigh is also in the process to obtain her Mental Health clinical license in the state of Florida.

Lara Snow, MSW, DBT-Intensively Trained
For several years, Lara worked in a treatment setting with adults suffering from mental health and substance abuse dependency issues. Shortly after beginning her career at Lifeskills as a clinical intern, she was introduced to the clinical and admissions team. Her work at Lifeskills allows her the opportunity to work with clients and witness the transformation they make and the strength they have as they journey to recovery. Lara received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Florida followed by her Master of Social Work degree from Florida Atlantic University. She is also intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy by The Linehan Institute. Lara looks to continue working in the field of Social Work and receiving her license as a Clinical Social Worker.

Denise Etherton, MA, LPC
Denise has worked in the mental health space for over 20 years. She is an experienced Admissions Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, and mental health advocate. She takes pride in providing education about the best care possible for those seeking mental health and substance abuse treatment. Her passion is to pave the way to hope and healing for potential clients and families who are navigating the treatment world at Lifeskills.
In undergraduate school, she holds a double major in Psychology & Criminal Justice from Lindenwood University. She also holds a graduate degree in Professional Counseling from Lindenwood University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) through the State of Missouri and telehealth for Florida. Her treatment modalities include CBT & ACT along with mindfulness training.
She is a married mother of 4 children and 2 dogs (Kylo Ren, the Goldador and Baxter the Shorkie). She enjoys reading, listening to podcasts, watching true crime documentaries (this makes her husband nervous), being with family and friends, and going to the beach and theme parks.

Barbra Quirk, MS
As an Admissions Counselor, Barbra guides individuals and their families through the admission process with support, compassion, and information to connect clients with life-changing care. She originally joined the Lifeskills team as an Intake Coordinator and Clinical Intern, providing her with extensive clinical knowledge, crisis intervention skills, and an understanding of positive/motivational interventions. Barbra attended Florida State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and obtained her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lynn University. Barbra brings past experiences working for a local non-profit delivering substance abuse prevention programming to young adults, families, professionals, and educators within the South Florida community.

Sandra Bernstein, LCSW, REBT-Trained, DBT-Intensively Trained, ExRP
With over 15 years of mental health and addiction experience, Sandra is a primary therapist providing individual, and group therapy utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), MI, and Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT) modalities and solution-focused techniques. She is an expert in CBT, working in exposure therapy, especially with anxiety and mood issues. Sandra has worked in individual and group settings in outpatient mental health centers and residential levels of care. She has managed family counseling and outpatient programs monitoring the delivery of clinical services to youth and their families. She has also been a Qualified Clinical Supervisor providing clinical supervision to therapists for licensure. Sandy is REBT Trained through the Albert Ellis Institute and also intensively trained in Exposure with Response prevention (ERP) through the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) for the treatment of OCD, as well as anxiety and trauma. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Temple University and her Master of Social Work at Barry University.

Dr. Despina Karfis has had her doctorate in clinical psychology for 15 years. In addition, she has been working with clients with mental health issues and substance dependency for over twenty years. Dr. Karfis earned her Doctorate and Master’s degrees in Clinical Psychology and has made strides using cognitive behavioral therapy and other evidence-based modalities. She has received specialized training in Forensic Psychology and has special talents in working with those suffering from traumatic events. She completed an APA-accredited internship and a dissertation called A Relapse Prevention Program for the Prevention of Eating Disorders. She is intensively trained in Exposure with Response prevention (ERP) through the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) for the treatment of OCD, as well as anxiety and trauma. Dr. Karfis is known to be a professional who is skilled in working with the most challenging clients and enjoys monitoring their success through measurable outcomes. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her two children and husband, playing board games, watching movies, sports, dining out, and building happy memories.

Dr. Nicolle Goldfinger is a Primary Therapist at Lifeskills South Florida. She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from The George Washington University and her Masters and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Nicolle utilizes evidenced-based approaches, which can be tailored to each client’s individualized needs including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy(ACT). Dr. Goldfinger has an extensive history of treating clients with mental health issues and addiction, including substance abuse and eating disorders. She has almost 15 years of experience in the field and her clinical effectiveness has helped her clients heal and develop the skills for remaining successful post-treatment. She is known for fostering a therapeutic alliance with her clients, that encourages both trust, support, and empathy. Dr. Nicolle is a Florida native and enjoys being outside in the Florida sunshine!

Robert Bruno, PsyD
Dr. Robert Bruno has expertise in serving clients with mental health issues and substance dependency. He has been immersed in this work for the last 11 years. He graduated from Florida State University in 2009 with a double major in Psychology and Biology. Dr. Bruno then earned his Masters in Professional Psychology and his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from William James College in Newton, MA between 2014 and 2019. He devoted a portion of his career in community mental health on a Mobile Crisis Team for over 5 years. Dr Bruno obtained valuable experience becoming an expert in crisis intervention techniques and working with those living with severe mental illness, mood disorders, and personality disorders. Professionally, he utilizes evidence-based approaches and has focused on the process of a truly multidisciplinary approach to symptom reduction and treatment. Dr. Bruno has returned to South Florida to serve the community that first gave him the drive to help those living with mental health issues. He also enjoys playing piano, camping, fishing, and spending time with his wife in the beautiful South Florida weather.

Dr. Gregory Fortune is a Primary Therapist with Lifeskills South Florida, bringing over a decade of experience in the field of mental health, specializing in the treatment of complex mental health disorders co-occurring with addiction. He holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of West Florida and a Doctoral Degree in Counseling and Supervision from Kean University.
As a licensed psychotherapist, Dr. Fortune brings a unique blend of expertise, empathy, and insight to his practice. He utilizes evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Multimodal Therapy (MMT), to provide tailored and effective care. His clinical expertise spans a wide range of mental health conditions, including addiction, anxiety, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, complex trauma, crisis intervention, depression, grief and loss, and suicide risk.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Fortune enjoys watching movies and spending time with his family and friends.

Dr. Maritza Torres is a primary therapist at Lifeskills South Florida. She has her Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology. She has also held clinical and administrative positions and has most notably served as a chaplain for 10 years of her career. She has extensive experience and is an expert in clinical pastoral care as well as evidence base modalities. Dr. Maritza has worked successfully, serving those with trauma issues as well. In her spare time, she enjoys spending quality time with her two children.

Florance Davidson, LCSW
Florance Davidson is the VA Liaison/Primary Therapist at Lifeskills South Florida. She earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from the Sandler School of Social Work at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL. Florance is a Marine Corps Veteran who is passionate about providing a non-judgmental safe space to the clients and veterans she serves. Florance works with her clients to build an alliance of trust and understanding aimed at helping clients achieve their goals and work towards attaining a better quality of life. She is trained in Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and has her certification in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She has successfully worked with a variety of individuals as an inpatient and outpatient therapist and has experience treating adults of all ages struggling with severe mental health symptoms. When not working with clients Florance enjoys spending time with family and friends and exploring the outdoors.

Chelsie Byars is a Primary Therapist at Lifeskills South Florida. She has her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and is proudly completing her Doctoral Degree in Couples, Marital, and Family Counseling at Barry University. She has extensive experience working with Individuals with Anxiety and Depressive related disorders, attention deficit hyperactive disorders, bipolar and mood-related disorders defiant-related disorders, and substance use dependency. Chelsie is also trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and in providing psycho-social intervention that aims to reduce severe symptoms of various mental health conditions. Chelsie also enjoys family time, traveling to Los Angeles, California to visit family and finding time for self-care.

Esther Entin, LCSW, DBT-Intensively Trained
Esther Entin is a Family Therapist at Lifeskills South Florida. She earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from the Wurzweiller School of Social Work at Yeshiva University in New York. Esther’s work focusing on the family is integral in promoting recovery, related to both mental health and addiction issues. She takes an evidence-based approach to family work. Her use of structural and systemic therapies leads to long-lasting improvements in family dynamics and communication. She is known for motivating change in family systems and supporting those in challenging times. When not working with clients and their families, Esther enjoys spending time with her husband, their four children, and grandchildren.

Krista Valz, PsyD, CRT-Trained
Dr. Valz is a licensed clinical psychologist and earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University. Her training has included individual and group work in a variety of settings including psychiatric care, outpatient mental health centers, and residential levels of care. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at South Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center where her clinical focus was forensic psychology and worked at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL with a clinical concentration on neuropsychological testing. Dr. Valz is trained in Cognitive Remediation Therapy. At Lifeskills, she facilitates specialized groups for clients diagnosed with bipolar and psychotic disorders, schizoaffective disorder, and schizophrenia at both the residential and outpatient levels of care.
Group Leader
Rabbi Brandon Gaines, DBT-Intensively Trained
Rabbi Brandon Gaines has been a teacher, leader, guide, and source of coaching and motivation for over 30 years. He possesses a Master’s Degree in Chinese Medicine, as well as a Rabbinical ordination from Yeshivah Pirchei Shoshanim of Israel.
He was the first black belt of Martial Arts master, Tom Bloom, a national champion amongst the first wave of students who graduated under Grand Master Chuck Norris. Brandon trained diligently with Master Bloom for over 15 years, obtaining a 3rd degree Black Belt in Korean American Tang Soo Do. Additionally, he obtained a Black Belt in Ninjutsu under Master Michael Cairns (a top student of legendary Martial Artist Frank Dux), as well as certification in Kung Fu Northern style Long Fist under Master Jonathan Wong.
Using these skills, Rabbi Brandon Gaines has mentored and encouraged those with mental health and substance abuse issues, helping them heal and prevent relapse. He is skilled and has a successful track record in utilizing experiential therapies in residential settings. He moved to southern Florida with his wife and 4 children from California and has brought his talents and experience to LifeSkills.

Jackie Parker
Jackie Parker was born and raised in Florida graduating and receiving her high school diploma from Highlands Christian Academy. Upon graduating, Jackie moved to Orlando, Florida to start her life and became a preschool teacher there for several years. After returning to South Florida, Jackie devoted 11 years to being a stay-at-home mom, raising her two beautiful daughters: Megan and Madison. In her involvement with actively raising her girls, she joined the Parent Teacher Organization eventually becoming PTO president. Now that her daughters are older and attending Calvary Christian Academy, Jackie is able to focus more on her passion for mental health and substance abuse. In 2020, she had the opportunity to become a Behavioral Health Technician at Lifeskills South Florida and leaning into her craft, she has received promotion to Weekend Supervisor. Heather has worked in the fitness industry for over 28 years and has been a nationally certified personal trainer for the past 17 years. She specializes in weight management, endurance, strength, and sports-specific training. The Metabolic Fitness groups that she facilitates at Lifeskills are specifically tailored to meet the needs of the individual client in weight loss, increasing strength, regaining balance and coordination, or improving flexibility. The goal is to make sure the clients’ fitness needs are met and improve their overall self-esteem, health, and wellness. Increasing self-confidence, mind-body awareness, and mastery of skill are at the heart of Heather’s’ work.

Alice Saltzman’s holistic wellness approach draws on her over 35 years of yoga practice and 20 years of teaching experience. With a Master of Social Work (MSW) and Certified Social Worker (CSW) credentials, she combines her deep expertise in yoga, functional nutrition, and wellness coaching to empower individuals to live healthier, more balanced lives.
A 500-hour Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT), Alice earned her 200-hour certification from the Kripalu School of Yoga and Health and has taught hundreds of hours of yoga, mindfulness, and meditation. She is also a Certified Functional Nutrition Counselor, Board-Certified Functional Health Coach, and a member of the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP) and the American Association of Natural Wellness Coaches (AANWP).

Certified in Hatha, Vinyasa, and Anuttara Raja Yoga (Kriya), her teaching experience includes Yoga Basics and Alignment, Mindfulness Meditation, Hatha, Vinyasa, Raja, and Yoga Barre at commercial studios, treatment centers, and as a guest teacher for the Dance Department at Broward College. With a deep love of the creative-expressive and healing arts, Buffy experienced the transformation power of yoga first-hand and embraced its connection with music, dance, and psychology. Klay Weaver, LCSW
Bringing over 25 years of behavioral healthcare management experience, including 20+ years in executive leadership, Klay joined Lifeskills South Florida in 2015 as our Chief Executive Officer. Prior to joining Lifeskills, he served as COO of Skyland Trail in Atlanta, GA, where he oversaw the organization’s strategic growth, financial operations, clinical operations, and marketing. With roots in community mental health, Klay led two of the largest community mental health centers in the state of Georgia, providing services to over 17,000 individuals annually in 11 counties.
Klay received a Bachelor of Arts in Education and an M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary, as well as a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Kentucky. As a licensed social worker for over two decades, he has enjoyed being active in the community serving on multiple non-profit boards including the Red Cross, Georgia Community Service Board Association, and most recently on the Delray Beach Drug Task Force. Since leading the team at Lifeskills South Florida, he has been instrumental in the clinical growth and programmatic expansion to provide additional services.

Daniel Bober, DO
Dr. Bober attended medical school at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his adult/child/adolescent psychiatry training at the Yale University School of Medicine and a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine. While serving as a mental health policy fellow in the U.S. Senate through the American Psychiatric Association and the Yale University School of Medicine, he championed the cause of veterans and active duty service members with mental illness.
Dr. Bober currently holds a faculty appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Yale Child Study Center. In treating adults, his clinical interest and expertise lay in working with individuals who have addiction, trauma, and personality disorders. His career has afforded him the opportunity to treat co-occurring disorders in inpatient, outpatient, and research settings. He is board-certified in General Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Forensic Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is also certified in Obesity Medicine through the American Board of Obesity Medicine. Additionally, as a Diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine, Dr. Bober is a Certified Addiction Medicine physician.

Andrew Spaedy, MD
Dr Spaedy is a psychiatric subspecialty trained physician. He attended medical school at the University of Missouri Kansas City School of medicine’s BA/MD program. He went on to complete a residency in General Psychiatry as well as a multi-year fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Hackensack Meridian Health’s Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Separate from his training experience, Dr Spaedy has worked as an outpatient physician at a community mental health clinic where he cared for patients with more severe mental health conditions. Additionally, he previously provided regular coverage to a local hospital’s 30 bed inpatient psychiatric unit, evaluated psychiatric emergency cases in the hospital’s ER, and performed psychiatric consultations requested by the internal medicine services.
Dr Spaedy has authored multiple psychiatric research papers that have been published in major psychiatric journals. Some of his published work includes an analysis of a broad range of substance use disorders in pediatric psychiatric patient populations as well as genetic research on the dopamine transporter and its relation to smoking in patients with schizophrenia. He has had his work presented at multiple national psychiatric meetings on topics such as neuroimaging findings in various mental health conditions as well as ways to improve efficiency with psychiatric liaison services on inpatient medical units.

Catherine Manley, LMHC serves as the Chief Operating Officer at Lifeskills South Florida. With over 15+ years in the behavioral healthcare sector, Catherine delivers a strong operational and business-oriented approach through her expertise in mentoring and developing leadership teams in growing companies. Catherine values maintaining clinical excellence for the benefit of all stakeholders. She has experience with the full continuum of care and offers profound insight into substance use disorders, mental health disorders, as well as eating disorders.
Catherine Manley, a Miami native, entered the behavioral healthcare industry as a call to action to provide compassionate and innovative treatment to her community. Catherine received her Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Florida International University and pursued her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Nova Southeastern University. She has served as a spokesperson to The Joint Commission on the impact of measurement-based care in the behavioral healthcare industry. Catherine is dedicated and committed to making a difference and champions the organizational culture by providing hands-on structure, supportive leadership, and a clear vision. Dr. Duquette, Director of Quality Improvement and Utilization Review at Lifeskills South Florida, earned his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Carlos Albizu University and completed his pre-doctoral internship at South Florida State Hospital. Before joining Lifeskills, he was the Utilization Review Manager at the largest community mental health center in Colorado, where he authorized all levels of mental health services for Medicaid consumers. He also brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in obtaining authorizations from private insurance companies.

Miguel Nerys, LMHC, NCC, DBT-Intensively Trained, EMDR-Trained
Miguel serves as Director of Outpatient Services at Lifeskills South Florida. A Licensed Mental Health Counselor and National Certified Counselor, he brings a wide array of experience related to mental health, addiction/relapse prevention, and trauma. He earned both his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Lynn University. Miguel is intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy by The Linehan Institute and is a nationally trained EMDR therapist. Formerly, he worked at a trauma-specific unit of a community mental health organization dealing with abused children and their families, as well as, worked with active duty military at a psychiatric facility in North Carolina.
He excels in treating clients that may be categorized as “treatment resistant” which is crucial in his role as Director of Outpatient Services. Miguel has traveled to Cambodia and Vietnam where he helped establish a foundation for the poor and provide training on the Western practice of psychology. Additionally, he has volunteered for the Big Brother Big Sister organization in Boca Raton, Florida. In his spare time, he enjoys listening to a good TED Talk/Podcast, astronomy and photography, and most notably time with his family. Miguel is bilingual in English and Spanish which lends to working with culturally diverse populations.

Dr. Forstadt is the Clinical Outcomes and Neuropsychological Testing Pathway Consultant at Lifeskills South Florida. As a psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience in the field of behavioral health, Dr. Forstadt specializes in addiction, dual diagnosis populations, and clinical testing protocols. He earned his Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology from Daemen College and Masters of Science degree in Community Mental Health from Canisius College. He also earned his Masters of Science in Psychology and Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from Medaille College in upstate New York. During his clinical practicum and residency, Dr. Forstadt completed training in psychological testing and clinical outcome measurement protocols in both forensic and residential treatment settings.
As an expert on clinical program development, integrative care, and research-based approaches, Dr. Forstadt has helped provide services to varying populations. He has created and consulted with treatment programs to elevate the quality and inclusiveness of clinical services provided. Dr. Mirella Ezeta is the Director of Family Services at Lifeskills South Florida. She earned her Master of Science in Mental Health and Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University. She also was trained in Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) at the Albert Ellis Institute in New York. She has been providing individual, family, and group therapy for almost 20 years for individuals with severe emotional problems, trauma experiences, and addiction diagnoses. In her work as a clinician, she considers this crucial for the client’s recovery. Working with the family system allows her to teach strategies for effective communication and the development of healthy relationships.
Her passion for attachment issues is reflected in her ability to develop and retrain healthy attachment within family members. Dr. Mirella is bilingual and has expansive experience working with diverse and multicultural families.

Ilissa Whitehead, MS, LMHC, Associate Director of Family Services at Lifeskills South Florida, earned her Bachelor of Science degree at Florida International University and holds a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Barry University. Ilissa has experience working in both residential and outpatient settings with adolescents, adults, groups, couples, and families. Passionate about repairing and rebuilding the family system, Ilissa strives to help families develop & maintain healthy lines of communication with appropriate boundaries through the lens of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and other evidence-based interventions. Kaleigh Dietz is an Admissions Counselor at Lifeskills South Florida. Kaleigh originally joined the Lifeskills team as an Intake Coordinator, where she welcomed clients to Lifeskills and helped guide them through the intake process. Kaleigh brings experience in concierge patient care and hopes to bring a concierge experience to clients here at Lifeskills, while also creating a warm and welcoming environment for them to begin their healing process. Kaleigh graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Master’s in Counselor Education and is also a Master’s level Certified Rehabilitation Counselor in the state of Florida. Kaleigh is also in the process to obtain her Mental Health clinical license in the state of Florida.

Denise has worked in the mental health space for over 20 years. She is an experienced Admissions Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, and mental health advocate. Her passion is to pave the way to hope and healing for potential clients and families who are navigating the treatment world at Lifeskills.
In undergraduate school, she holds a double major in Psychology & Criminal Justice from Lindenwood University. She also holds a graduate degree in Professional Counseling from Lindenwood University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) through the State of Missouri and telehealth for Florida. She originally joined the Lifeskills team as an Intake Coordinator and Clinical Intern, providing her with extensive clinical knowledge, crisis intervention skills, and an understanding of positive/motivational interventions. Barbra attended Florida State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and obtained her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lynn University. She has multiple years of experience working with clients in treatment settings and her passion lies in working with individuals struggling with co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders. Jamia Wilson is a Primary Therapist at Lifeskills South Florida. Additionally, Jamia is certified in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) for Trauma treatment She has an extensive history of treating clients with mental health issues, trauma, and addiction for over a decade including experience working in multiple levels of care including inpatient mental health, detoxification, residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient settings. Travis Owens is a Primary Therapist in the Outpatient Program at Lifeskills South Florida. Travis started his career in mental health as a Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (CRPS) at a non–profit organization working with neurodivergent young men as a mentor – teaching them essential coping skills, offering case management services, and connecting them to support in the community. This experience taught him crucial professional skills like motivational interviewing and the use of trauma-informed language with his clients.
Travis implements a holistic, client-centered approach that combines psychodynamic, rational choice, and social learning theory. He has lived in Florida his entire life and is a proud first-generation American with family from Ontario, Canada. Stephanie Firth is a Primary Therapist in the Outpatient Program at Lifeskills South Florida. Stephanie graduated from FAU’s accelerated Master’s program Magna Cum Laude. After Graduation, she became an RCSWI and is currently working towards full licensure. Stephanie has extensive experience working with acute mental health issues, including but not limited to schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and various psychotic disorders. Additionally, she has several years of substance abuse experience. Stephanie has worked in various levels of care, which are crisis, residential, SRT, PHP, IOP, and OP. Her passion is working with acute psychotic disorder, as well as individuals suffering from Substance Abuse Disorder. Stephanie implements holistic, client-centered care for each of her clients that combines strengths perspectives, motivation interviewing, and social learning theory. She has lived in Florida her whole life and currently resides in Boca with her husband, two children, and dog. Her family is her everything and comes first in her life.

Kayla has experience in treating clients with mental health issues and complex trauma, with a focus on survivors of human trafficking. She empowers her clients to deepen their relationship with themselves and others, fostering skills that enhance emotional awareness and resilience. She brings a compassionate and holistic approach to therapy, utilizing evidence-based practices to support personal growth and well-being. Shannon Hawke has a master’s degree in counseling with over 25 years of experience working in the field of addictive disorders. She has worked as a primary therapist in treatment for co-occurring disorders and also has been a family counselor. She is passionate about guiding not only the identified client towards getting help but also the importance of the entire family system working toward recovery. The family often does not receive the tools it needs to move forward with a healthy new dynamic with their client. She believes the family benefits from coaching and support as well as the client. Shannon received her undergraduate degree in Sociology from FAU in 1997 and her masters in professional studies with a concentration in counseling from NYIT in 2002. As the Supervisor of Lifeskills South Florida’s Outpatient Program, Freeman has over 25 years of work experience in the mental health field. He consistently utilizes his training in the areas of crisis intervention, de-escalation, and relapse prevention. He consistently relies on the concept of encouraging, redirecting, and supporting clients with a warm and compassionate demeanor. He started in our Admissions Department and his excellence in customer service led to this role. Freeman has worked with police and fire department staff in the development of safety protocols for at-risk clients and the piloting of concierge programs.

Heather has worked in the fitness industry for over 28 years and has been a nationally certified personal trainer for the past 17 years. She specializes in weight management, endurance, strength, and sports-specific training. The Metabolic Fitness groups that she facilitates at Lifeskills are specifically tailored to meet the needs of the individual client in weight loss, increasing strength, regaining balance and coordination, or improving flexibility. The goal is to make sure the clients’ fitness needs are met and improve their overall self-esteem, health, and wellness. Increasing self-confidence, mind-body awareness, and mastery of skill are at the heart of Heather’s’ work.

Alice Saltzman, MSW
Alice Saltzman’s holistic wellness approach draws on her over 35 years of yoga practice and 20 years of teaching experience. With a Master of Social Work (MSW) and Certified Social Worker (CSW) credentials, she combines her deep expertise in yoga, functional nutrition, and wellness coaching to empower individuals to live healthier, more balanced lives.
A 500-hour Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT), Alice earned her 200-hour certification from the Kripalu School of Yoga and Health and has taught hundreds of hours of yoga, mindfulness, and meditation. She is also a Certified Functional Nutrition Counselor, Board-Certified Functional Health Coach, and a member of the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP) and the American Association of Natural Wellness Coaches (AANWP).

Certified in Hatha, Vinyasa, and Anuttara Raja Yoga (Kriya), her teaching experience includes Yoga Basics and Alignment, Mindfulness Meditation, Hatha, Vinyasa, Raja, and Yoga Barre at commercial studios, treatment centers, and as a guest teacher for the Dance Department at Broward College. With a deep love of the creative-expressive and healing arts, Buffy experienced the transformation power of yoga first-hand and embraced its connection with music, dance, and psychology. With a background in Alumni Engagement in the higher education setting and a Bachelor’s and master’s level education in Psychology and Communications, Dani brings her experience and passion to our facilities. Klay Weaver, LCSW
Bringing over 25 years of behavioral healthcare management experience, including 20+ years in executive leadership, Klay joined Lifeskills South Florida in 2015 as our Chief Executive Officer. Prior to joining Lifeskills, he served as COO of Skyland Trail in Atlanta, GA, where he oversaw the organization’s strategic growth, financial operations, clinical operations, and marketing. With roots in community mental health, Klay led two of the largest community mental health centers in the state of Georgia, providing services to over 17,000 individuals annually in 11 counties.
Klay received a Bachelor of Arts in Education and an M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary, as well as a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Kentucky. As a licensed social worker for over two decades, he has enjoyed being active in the community serving on multiple non-profit boards including the Red Cross, Georgia Community Service Board Association, and most recently on the Delray Beach Drug Task Force. Since leading the team at Lifeskills South Florida, he has been instrumental in the clinical growth and programmatic expansion to provide additional services.

Daniel Bober, DO
Dr. Bober attended medical school at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his adult/child/adolescent psychiatry training at the Yale University School of Medicine and a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine. While serving as a mental health policy fellow in the U.S. Senate through the American Psychiatric Association and the Yale University School of Medicine, he championed the cause of veterans and active duty service members with mental illness.
Dr. Bober currently holds a faculty appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Yale Child Study Center. In treating adults, his clinical interest and expertise lay in working with individuals who have addiction, trauma, and personality disorders. His career has afforded him the opportunity to treat co-occurring disorders in inpatient, outpatient, and research settings. He is board-certified in General Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Forensic Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is also certified in Obesity Medicine through the American Board of Obesity Medicine. Additionally, as a Diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine, Dr. Bober is a Certified Addiction Medicine physician.

Andrew Spaedy, MD
Dr Spaedy is a psychiatric subspecialty trained physician. He attended medical school at the University of Missouri Kansas City School of medicine’s BA/MD program. He went on to complete a residency in General Psychiatry as well as a multi-year fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Hackensack Meridian Health’s Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Separate from his training experience, Dr Spaedy has worked as an outpatient physician at a community mental health clinic where he cared for patients with more severe mental health conditions. Additionally, he previously provided regular coverage to a local hospital’s 30 bed inpatient psychiatric unit, evaluated psychiatric emergency cases in the hospital’s ER, and performed psychiatric consultations requested by the internal medicine services.
Dr Spaedy has authored multiple psychiatric research papers that have been published in major psychiatric journals. Some of his published work includes an analysis of a broad range of substance use disorders in pediatric psychiatric patient populations as well as genetic research on the dopamine transporter and its relation to smoking in patients with schizophrenia. He has had his work presented at multiple national psychiatric meetings on topics such as neuroimaging findings in various mental health conditions as well as ways to improve efficiency with psychiatric liaison services on inpatient medical units.

Catherine Manley, LMHC serves as the Chief Operating Officer at Lifeskills South Florida. With over 15+ years in the behavioral healthcare sector, Catherine delivers a strong operational and business-oriented approach through her expertise in mentoring and developing leadership teams in growing companies. Catherine values maintaining clinical excellence for the benefit of all stakeholders. She has experience with the full continuum of care and offers profound insight into substance use disorders, mental health disorders, as well as eating disorders.
Catherine Manley, a Miami native, entered the behavioral healthcare industry as a call to action to provide compassionate and innovative treatment to her community. Catherine received her Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Florida International University and pursued her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Nova Southeastern University. She has served as a spokesperson to The Joint Commission on the impact of measurement-based care in the behavioral healthcare industry. Catherine is dedicated and committed to making a difference and champions the organizational culture by providing hands-on structure, supportive leadership, and a clear vision. Dr. Duquette, Director of Quality Improvement and Utilization Review at Lifeskills South Florida, earned his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Carlos Albizu University and completed his pre-doctoral internship at South Florida State Hospital. Before joining Lifeskills, he was the Utilization Review Manager at the largest community mental health center in Colorado, where he authorized all levels of mental health services for Medicaid consumers. He also brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in obtaining authorizations from private insurance companies.

David Ockman, PsyD, CAP
Dr. Ockman serves as Executive Director of Clinical Services at Lifeskills South Florida and is a licensed Psychologist and Certified Addictions Professional. He has worked in the field of mental health and addiction for more than 30 years. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Florida International University, Masters and Doctoral degrees from The Miami Institute of Psychology, and has been licensed as a Psychologist since 2002. Dr. Ockman has been with Lifeskills for just under a decade focusing on clinical programming, leading the esteemed team via his supervision, integrity, and development.
His longevity in the behavioral health field includes a broad range of expertise to his crucial role such as administrative leadership in therapeutic out-patient and residential communities, hospital settings, and state regulatory positions. During his career, he has been an integral team member in securing and maintaining Joint Commission and CARF Accreditations, the gold standard in behavioral health. He has spent most of his career utilizing evidence-based modalities and finding ways to provide the most effective interventions for patients and their families.
Dr. Ockman spent seven years as one of the supervising Psychologists of interns and residents for an APPIC-approved program training psychologists in best practices. He was born and raised in South Florida and enjoys finding great places in Florida to take his family who is his everything!

Sheryl is highly skilled in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Enhancement Therapy techniques in her approach to clients and families. She has more than a decade of experience in effectively treating addictions, trauma, and severe mental health issues. Sheryl supports motivating and empowering clients and families to make the healthiest and most proactive choices for their lives. Dr. Forstadt is the Clinical Outcomes and Neuropsychological Testing Pathway Consultant at Lifeskills South Florida. As a psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience in the field of behavioral health, Dr. Forstadt specializes in addiction, dual diagnosis populations, and clinical testing protocols. He earned his Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology from Daemen College and Masters of Science degree in Community Mental Health from Canisius College. He also earned his Masters of Science in Psychology and Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from Medaille College in upstate New York. During his clinical practicum and residency, Dr. Forstadt completed training in psychological testing and clinical outcome measurement protocols in both forensic and residential treatment settings.
As an expert on clinical program development, integrative care, and research-based approaches, Dr. Forstadt has helped provide services to varying populations. He has created and consulted with treatment programs to elevate the quality and inclusiveness of clinical services provided. Kaleigh Dietz is an Admissions Counselor at Lifeskills South Florida. Kaleigh originally joined the Lifeskills team as an Intake Coordinator, where she welcomed clients to Lifeskills and helped guide them through the intake process. Kaleigh brings experience in concierge patient care and hopes to bring a concierge experience to clients here at Lifeskills, while also creating a warm and welcoming environment for them to begin their healing process. Kaleigh graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Master’s in Counselor Education and is also a Master’s level Certified Rehabilitation Counselor in the state of Florida. Kaleigh is also in the process to obtain her Mental Health clinical license in the state of Florida.

For several years, Lara worked in a treatment setting with adults suffering from mental health and substance abuse dependency issues. Shortly after beginning her career at Lifeskills as a clinical intern, she was introduced to the clinical and admissions team. Her work at Lifeskills allows her the opportunity to work with clients and witness the transformation they make and the strength they have as they journey to recovery. Lara received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Florida followed by her Master of Social Work degree from Florida Atlantic University. She is also intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy by The Linehan Institute. Denise has worked in the mental health space for over 20 years. She is an experienced Admissions Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, and mental health advocate. She takes pride in providing education about the best care possible for those seeking mental health and substance abuse treatment. Her passion is to pave the way to hope and healing for potential clients and families who are navigating the treatment world at Lifeskills.
In undergraduate school, she holds a double major in Psychology & Criminal Justice from Lindenwood University. She also holds a graduate degree in Professional Counseling from Lindenwood University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) through the State of Missouri and telehealth for Florida. Her treatment modalities include CBT & ACT along with mindfulness training.
She is a married mother of 4 children and 2 dogs (Kylo Ren, the Goldador and Baxter the Shorkie). She enjoys reading, listening to podcasts, watching true crime documentaries (this makes her husband nervous), being with family and friends, and going to the beach and theme parks.

Jamel Lewis, RN, BSN
Jamel Lewis is the Director of Nursing for Lifeskills South Florida in Deerfield. Jamel earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Chamberlain University. He has dedicated his 22 years as a nurse to delivering exemplary patient care. He started his career in New York as a wound care nurse for military veterans. He then transitioned to nursing elderly patients in long-term care facilities. Ten years ago, his family moved to South Florida, and his career path led him to work with mental health and addiction patients. Jamel has held numerous supervisory and directorial positions over the past eight years. His job satisfaction comes from knowing that he is helping to improve his patients’ lives. In his personal life, Jamel can be found at the gym doing CrossFit or the theatre, watching Marvel movies with his three children.

He is a proud double alumnus of Florida International University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and his Master of Science degree in Professional Counseling Psychology. Luis has worked in the field of mental health for more than a decade, having spent the better part working in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) both in the United States and abroad, where he would assist individuals with neurodevelopmentally diverse profiles of all ages and their families achieve a sense of unity, functionality, and stability.
Luis is bilingual (English/Spanish) and specializes in working with individuals struggling with a diverse array of psychiatric conditions, trauma, and addiction. He believes in treating the whole person in an evidence-based way. Utilizing an individualized interdisciplinary approach, Luis implements evidence-based strategies stemming from Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).

Spencer Pollack, MSW, is a primary therapist at the Fort Lauderdale campus of Lifeskills South Florida. Spencer obtained his Master of Social Work degree from Florida Atlantic University, and he acquired his Bachelor of Science in Clinical Psychology from the University of Central Florida. Spencer also has his certificate in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and enjoys utilizing that practice in his clinical work to ensure the best outcomes. Prior to employment at Lifeskills South Florida, he spent almost two years at Lifeskills completing his course of training. Spencer became an expert in working with those with mental health issues and understands the importance of individualized care and how valued that is to the client and the client’s family and team members.

Dr. Mirella Ezeta is the Director of Family Services at Lifeskills South Florida. She also was trained in Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) at the Albert Ellis Institute in New York. Ilissa Whitehead, MS, LMHC, Associate Director of Family Services at Lifeskills South Florida, earned her Bachelor of Science degree at Florida International University and holds a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Barry University. Ilissa has experience working in both residential and outpatient settings with adolescents, adults, groups, couples, and families. Passionate about repairing and rebuilding the family system, Ilissa strives to help families develop & maintain healthy lines of communication with appropriate boundaries through the lens of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and other evidence-based interventions. Ilissa is highly skilled in delivering Exposure Response Therapy (ERP), the Gold Standard treatment modality for OCD and anxiety disorders. Anisha Hume, PsyD
Dr. Hume earned a doctoral degree in clinical psychology (PsyD) from the Florida School of Professional Psychology in Tampa. She has over 15 years of experience providing mental health and substance abuse services. With a passion for supporting teens, adults, and other healthcare providers, she understands the true essence and uniqueness of human experiences and is committed to working collaboratively with each individual or families to create a treatment plan tailored to their needs. Dr. Hume integrates an evidenced-based approach to therapy, which is particularly helpful in coping with addictions, identity issues, interpersonal challenges, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, cognitive disorders and functional capacities, or phase of life problems. She is committed to continue learning and seeking new and advance training in the most cutting-edge therapies that she can bring to her clients.
Dr. Hume has worked in a variety of clinical settings, such as community mental health, partial hospitalization, crisis stabilization, and private practice. In addition to talk therapy, she has conducted various psychological assessments/evaluations. She is most passionate about restoring hope and strongly values the connection made during the therapeutic relationship. She believes that with the right tools, everyone has the capacity for healing. Maxiel Cuevas is the Case Manager for Lifeskills South Florida at the Fort Lauderdale Campus. She received her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. She has extensive experience providing case management services in various mental health settings including inpatient psychiatric hospitals and outpatient settings. Her philosophy, change is necessary to build a quality of life, informs her approach to providing support and resources for clients to achieve their best quality of life both in treatment and upon re-entering the community. She loves to travel, explore different cultures, and listen to music.

Heather has worked in the fitness industry for over 28 years and has been a nationally certified personal trainer for the past 17 years. She specializes in weight management, endurance, strength, and sports-specific training. The Metabolic Fitness groups that she facilitates at Lifeskills are specifically tailored to meet the needs of the individual client in weight loss, increasing strength, regaining balance and coordination, or improving flexibility. The goal is to make sure the clients’ fitness needs are met and improve their overall self-esteem, health, and wellness. Increasing self-confidence, mind-body awareness, and mastery of skill are at the heart of Heather’s’ work.

As a lifelong dancer, singer, and creative artist with a degree in Psychology, Buffy completed her Yoga Teacher Certification in 2016 at the 500-hour level under Philip Christodoulou of Anuttara Yoga Shala. Certified in Hatha, Vinyasa, and Anuttara Raja Yoga (Kriya), her teaching experience includes Yoga Basics and Alignment, Mindfulness Meditation, Hatha, Vinyasa, Raja, and Yoga Barre at commercial studios, treatment centers, and as a guest teacher for the Dance Department at Broward College. With a deep love of the creative-expressive and healing arts, Buffy experienced the transformation power of yoga first-hand and embraced its connection with music, dance, and psychology. From this platform she encourages the use of intention and imagination, mindfulness and conscious breathing, yogic philosophy, and asana to initiate the healing process from the inside out.

With extensive experience developing and directing robust alumni communities in the addiction and mental health fields, he focuses on engaging people withintheir specific recovery journeys and developing community partnerships with a belief that long-term recovery is an attainable life goal.
Bringing over 25 years of behavioral healthcare management experience, including 20+ years in executive leadership, Klay joined Lifeskills South Florida in 2015 as our Chief Executive Officer. Prior to joining Lifeskills, he served as COO of Skyland Trail in Atlanta, GA, where he oversaw the organization’s strategic growth, financial operations, clinical operations, and marketing. With roots in community mental health, Klay led two of the largest community mental health centers in the state of Georgia, providing services to over 17,000 individuals annually in 11 counties. Klay received a Bachelor of Arts in Education and an M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary, as well as a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Kentucky. As a licensed social worker for over two decades, he has enjoyed being active in the community serving on multiple non-profit boards including the Red Cross, Georgia Community Service Board Association, and most recently on the Delray Beach Drug Task Force. Since leading the team at Lifeskills South Florida, he has been instrumental in the clinical growth and programmatic expansion to provide additional services. With extensive experience in the mental health and substance use field and a long tenure at Lifeskills leading teams, Joe experience centers in the delivery of exceptional clinical services and the operational excellence required to sustain them. As Executive Director, Joe empowers Orlando’s clinical and operational teams to provide the highest caliber of clinical treatment through care and compassion. Joe is a Certified Recovery Residence Administrator (CRRA) with the state of Florida, has worked closely with FARR, DCF, CARF, and JCAHO, and currently holds a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Management along with pursuing an Executive Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration.
Dr. Branch is double board certified in adult and child psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She completed her training in adult psychiatry at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York and further completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Schneider Children’s Hospital. She was the recipient of the Award in Clinical Excellence of her graduating class and is experienced in treating a wide variety of disorders with special interests in ADHD, bipolar and anxiety disorders. Dr. Branch has extensive experience in outpatient, inpatient, and residential treatment settings. She has been an Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at the LECOM Medical School and is currently an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Central Florida Medical School and has mentored both premed and medical students. Dr. Branch has previously been involved in speaking engagements to educate local physicians about psychiatric disorders and was included in the listing of America’s Top Psychiatrists in 2009.
Catherine Manley, LMHC serves as the Chief Operating Officer at Lifeskills South Florida. With over 15+ years in the behavioral healthcare sector, Catherine delivers a strong operational and business-oriented approach through her expertise in mentoring and developing leadership teams in growing companies. Catherine values maintaining clinical excellence for the benefit of all stakeholders. She has experience with the full continuum of care and offers profound insight into substance use disorders, mental health disorders, as well as eating disorders. Catherine Manley, a Miami native, entered the behavioral healthcare industry as a call to action to provide compassionate and innovative treatment to her community. Catherine received her Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Florida International University and pursued her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Nova Southeastern University. She has served as a spokesperson to The Joint Commission on the impact of measurement-based care in the behavioral healthcare industry. Catherine is dedicated and committed to making a difference and champions the organizational culture by providing hands-on structure, supportive leadership, and a clear vision. When Catherine is not working, she enjoys traveling abroad with her family and two young sons, Chase and Connor. Dr. Ockman serves as Executive Director of Clinical Services at Lifeskills South Florida and is a licensed Psychologist and Certified Addictions Professional. He has worked in the field of mental health and addiction for more than 30 years. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Florida International University, Masters and Doctoral degrees from The Miami Institute of Psychology, and has been licensed as a Psychologist since 2002. Dr. Ockman has been with Lifeskills for just under a decade focusing on clinical programming, leading the esteemed team via his supervision, integrity, and development. His longevity in the behavioral health field includes a broad range of expertise to his crucial role such as administrative leadership in therapeutic out-patient and residential communities, hospital settings, and state regulatory positions. During his career, he has been an integral team member in securing and maintaining Joint Commission and CARF Accreditations, the gold standard in behavioral health. He has spent most of his career utilizing evidence-based modalities and finding ways to provide the most effective interventions for patients and their families. Dr. Ockman spent seven years as one of the supervising Psychologists of interns and residents for an APPIC-approved program training psychologists in best practices. He was born and raised in South Florida and enjoys finding great places in Florida to take his family who is his everything! Dr. Duquette, Director of Quality Improvement and Utilization Review at Lifeskills South Florida, earned his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Carlos Albizu University and completed his pre-doctoral internship at South Florida State Hospital. Before joining Lifeskills, he was the Utilization Review Manager at the largest community mental health center in Colorado, where he authorized all levels of mental health services for Medicaid consumers. He also brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in obtaining authorizations from private insurance companies. With a professional background in both luxury hospitality and residential treatment admissions, Jorge is distinguished by his passion for excellence in customer service and constant striving to exceed client, family, and trusted professional expectations. In addition, he has extensive experience working with complicated clinical cases and is accustomed to working with those from diverse cultural backgrounds. Jorge is currently enrolled in Palm Beach Atlantic University, pursuing a Master’s of Science in Mental Health. He is bilingual which lends to family systems communication needs. Kaleigh Dietz is an Admissions Counselor at Lifeskills South Florida. Kaleigh originally joined the Lifeskills team as an Intake Coordinator, where she welcomed clients to Lifeskills and helped guide them through the intake process. Kaleigh brings experience in concierge patient care and hopes to bring a concierge experience to clients here at Lifeskills, while also creating a warm and welcoming environment for them to begin their healing process. Kaleigh graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Master’s in Counselor Education and is also a Master’s level Certified Rehabilitation Counselor in the state of Florida. Kaleigh is also in the process to obtain her Mental Health clinical license in the state of Florida. For several years, Lara worked in a treatment setting with adults suffering from mental health and substance abuse dependency issues. Shortly after beginning her career at Lifeskills as a clinical intern, she was introduced to the clinical and admissions team. Her work at Lifeskills allows her the opportunity to work with clients and witness the transformation they make and the strength they have as they journey to recovery. Lara received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Florida followed by her Master of Social Work degree from Florida Atlantic University. She is also intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy by The Linehan Institute. Lara looks to continue working in the field of Social Work and receiving her license as a Clinical Social Worker. Denise has worked in the mental health space for over 20 years. She is an experienced Admissions Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, and mental health advocate. She takes pride in providing education about the best care possible for those seeking mental health and substance abuse treatment. Her passion is to pave the way to hope and healing for potential clients and families who are navigating the treatment world at Lifeskills. In undergraduate school, she holds a double major in Psychology & Criminal Justice from Lindenwood University. She also holds a graduate degree in Professional Counseling from Lindenwood University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) through the State of Missouri and telehealth for Florida. Her treatment modalities include CBT & ACT along with mindfulness training. She is a married mother of 4 children and 2 dogs (Kylo Ren, the Goldador and Baxter the Shorkie). She enjoys reading, listening to podcasts, watching true crime documentaries (this makes her husband nervous), being with family and friends, and going to the beach and theme parks. As an Admissions Counselor, Barbra guides individuals and their families through the admission process with support, compassion, and information to connect clients with life-changing care. She originally joined the Lifeskills team as an Intake Coordinator and Clinical Intern, providing her with extensive clinical knowledge, crisis intervention skills, and an understanding of positive/motivational interventions. Barbra attended Florida State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and obtained her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lynn University. Barbra brings past experiences working for a local non-profit delivering substance abuse prevention programming to young adults, families, professionals, and educators within the South Florida community. Ryan Murphy is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a diverse background in healthcare. He earned degrees from Marymount University, Salisbury University, and Maryville University. He has held various roles since 2008, including student health advocate, medical scribe, intensive care nurse, and travel nurse along the East Coast. Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, Ryan specializes in psychiatric care across the lifespan, emphasizing consistency, integrity, and a supportive client relationship. His open-minded, holistic approach includes collaboration with interdisciplinary professionals, family, and friends to support clients’ mental health goals and long-term wellness. Jamel Lewis is the Director of Nursing for Lifeskills South Florida in Deerfield. Jamel earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Chamberlain University. He has dedicated his 22 years as a nurse to delivering exemplary patient care. He started his career in New York as a wound care nurse for military veterans. He then transitioned to nursing elderly patients in long-term care facilities. Ten years ago, his family moved to South Florida, and his career path led him to work with mental health and addiction patients. Jamel has held numerous supervisory and directorial positions over the past eight years. His job satisfaction comes from knowing that he is helping to improve his patients’ lives. In his personal life, Jamel can be found at the gym doing CrossFit or the theatre, watching Marvel movies with his three children. Dr. Deveau is a Primary Therapist at Lifeskills Orlando. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Central Florida, her Master’s degree from Southeastern University, and her Ph.D. from Walden University, where her concentration was counseling and trauma. Dr. Tina uses interventions to treat her clients from evidence-based approaches. These approaches include dialectical behavior therapy, trauma-focused cognitive behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and brain spotting. She tailors her interventions to meet the needs of her clients as individuals. Her initial goal is to help her clients create a sense of safety, and then she works with her clients to develop new thought patterns and behaviors. Dr. Tina has over 10 years of experience effectively working with clients who struggle with depression, anxiety, OCD, post-traumatic stress disorder, substance use disorders, attachment issues, bipolar disorder, and autism spectrum disorder. She is originally from the Midwest but considers herself a Floridian. She enjoys reading and spending time at the beach. Born and raised in San Juan, PR, Dr. Brenda Rosario Santiago earned her doctorate degree from Carlos Albizu University, graduating with advanced training in complex trauma treatment. She has experience in outpatient and inpatient levels of care within the Florida Department of Corrections, as well as forensic training while working with patients within the Mental Health Court system. Dr. Brenda has extensive knowledge in treating mood disorders, personality disorders, trauma and stress-related disorders. She is skilled in providing multi-culturally informed counseling, crisis intervention, family therapy, CBT, and DBT structured interventions. Dr. Brenda has vast experience in providing excellent customer service, having previously worked as an Advertising professional for more than 15 years managing multinational bands. Her creative approach to treatment integrates preventative care interventions with evidence-based practices that help facilitate the path for healing. Dr. Yolanda Wade-Williams has over 14 years of experience in the field of behavioral health. She specializes in substance dependency, chronic mental health disorders, and treating dually diagnosed populations. She has broad-spectrum expertise in working in residential, outpatient, and assisted living facilities with adolescents, adults, groups, and families. Dr. Wade-Williams earned her master’s degree in counseling psychology at Trinity International University. She has earned a Doctor of Education degree (Ed.D.) at the American College of Education where she published groundbreaking research on the efficacy of bidimensional self-awareness competencies using a self-awareness tool she developed. She is highly trained in the Scholar-Practitioner model. She is skilled in delivering Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Solution-focused therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and a wide range of other evidenced-based treatment modalities and monitors client success through measurable outcomes. She enjoys spending time with her husband and a senior poodle named Buddy, playing the piano, exploring Europe, fishing, and spending time in nature. Kim is a Certified Life Coach who has 19 years of experience working with residents diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness as well as those on the spectrum. Kim received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Central Florida. Kim specializes in life skills development and is responsible for educating the residents on how to increase their level of independence using their executive functioning skills such as organization, stress management, flexibility, and time management to name a few. Kim is a motivating force in the workplace and uses her positive attitude to encourage others to work hard and succeed. Kim is inspired daily by her husband and three children. For relaxation, Kim enjoys being creative in her planner and bullet journal.
Curtis is a Certified Recreational Therapist with over 28 years of experience in program planning for emotional disorders and geriatric care. He is a graduate of the University of Florida with a degree in Psychology and Recreational Therapy, and post graduate work in Physical Therapy from Lynn University. He has additional certification in Aquatic Therapy and team building. Curtis has worked extensively over the past fourteen years and continues to work with the Occupational Therapy Student Interns from the College of Health Sciences at Florida Hospital, where he serves as a clinical educator and accreditation board member. He serves as a consultant in Alzheimer’s and practices in rehabilitating clients in aquatic therapy. Curtis is a former football player at the University of Florida and had a professional football career in both the NFL and CFL.
With over twenty-five years of experience, Marnita is a licensed Art Therapist who has provided creative therapeutic programs to a wide variety of populations. In addition to being a Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (CCBT), Certified Group Therapist (CGT), and a Certified Dementia Professional (CDP), she is trained in Integrative Expressive Sand Play Therapy, Auriculotherapy, and Energy Medicine. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Art Education and her master’s degree in Art Psychotherapy from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Marnita has worked on curriculum committees, developed and implemented programming for crisis stabilization, inpatient, partial hospitalization, outpatient, short-term residential, school settings, nursing homes, assisted living and memory care facilities. She has also been involved in crisis response team, task forces, quality assurance, volunteer efforts and interfacing with partners in the community. Paralleling her therapeutic career, she has remained active in the arts coordinating art fairs and as an educator designing fine art curricula for grant funded programs, art clubs, summer programs, and the Village Art Room. Marnita has had numerous shows and has participated in juried regional, national and international exhibitions. Her work has been published in Somerset Studio – The Art of Paper and Mixed Media and Cloth, Paper, Scissors. As a professional artist, she’s been involved in festival judging of fine art and continues to show her work in juried exhibitions.
Mario Seabrook has served in various roles at Lifeskills Orlando since December 2021. As our Milieu Supervisor and Alumni Coordinator Care Specialist, Mario supports all efforts to provide lifelong services to Residents, Alumni, and their Families as they continue their healing journey. Mario has served his community members in the field of mental health and behavioral health for over 30 years. In addition to his work history, he brings compassion and understanding to those he serves. Mario’s talents include his ability to meet clients where they are and provide support and guidance to attaining their goals. He excels in crisis management and creating a safe environment. Mario belief is that Clients engaging in effective treatment and recovery communities leads to lifelong positive change. Anthony is an accomplished Facilities Director and Safety Officer with over 20 years of experience in managing and optimizing facility operations while ensuring a safe and compliant environment. He has a proven track record of implementing innovative solutions to enhance operational efficiency and safety protocols. In his role, Anthony oversees all aspects of facility management, including maintenance, planning, and project management. He is dedicated to fostering a culture of safety and security and works closely with the health department, OSHA, and other officials to minimize risks while performing regular safety audits.
